Short History of Media Democrats
In 1976, the Media Democrats first published their newsletter known as the “Media Minutes.” At that time, there were three registered Republicans in Media for every single Democrat. Our candidates ran under the banner of the “Media Minutes Team.” We won despite the odds. Since that time more then 24 individuals have been elected as Democrats and have served in the positions of Mayor, members of Borough Council, Tax Collector and Constable.
Accomplishments
The following is a partial list of what we have achieved while serving the people of Media as the majority party in our local government:
- Established the Media Food Festival
- Initiated the Media 5 Mile Run
- Saved The Media School
- Expanded the recycling program
- Saved the Media Theatre and the Borough purchased the property
- Developed a new Borough Hall, Police Station, and Community Center
- Created a Tot-Lot playground
- Installed lights and restrooms at Barrall Field
- Established the Media Business Authority, which sponsors several events including: The Blues Stroll, Jazz Fest, the Americana Music Festival, The Great Media Garage Sale, and Teen Alley
- Promoted family activities at the Community Center
- Helped to reduce crime by 90%
- Acquired the Armory and facilitated the opening of Trader Joes on State St.
Current Times
In recent years, National and Statewide Democratic candidates have carried Media by huge margins as Democrats (and Republicans) have rejected the policies and practices of the national Republican Committee. The number of registered Democrats in Media now actually exceeds the number of registered Republicans!
We will continue to work hard to keep the interest of the residents of Media first and remain independent and free of the pervasive influence of the Delaware County GOP machine.
