Elections

The Media Democratic Committee supported the following candidates in the November 3rd, 2009 general election. These candidates are now members of the Media Borough Council based on across the board victories. Their bios appear below. More info may be available on the Media town home page.

Bios

 

MAYOR- Bob McMahon

Mayor Bob McMahon, a resident of Media for 32 years, has served as a Council member since 1982 and was elected Mayor in 1992. McMahon’s primary focus has been the safety of Media’s residents, thereby helping to make Media virtually free of major crime for the past 27 years. He lead the Save Our School (Media Elementary) and Save Media Theater initiatives. Continuing to spearhead numerous successful campaigns, McMahon obtained federal and state grants to boost the visual appearance of the Borough, as well as helped to advance the development of the business district. Mayor McMahon re-energized Media’s Annual Memorial and Veteran’s Day parades and aided in founding the PA Veterans Museum located on State Street  He co-founded the Media Area Girls Softball league and is committed to youth development and education while serving as a class speaker and coach.

 

TAX COLLECTOR- Bob Dimond

Bob holds a Bachelor’s degree from Thomas Edison State College. A former Councilman and Mayor in eastern Delaware County, Bob has been the Tax Collector for the past 8 years. He is the Treasurer of the Media Rotary Foundation and Executive Director/Treasurer of the Veterans Legacy Project. A past Commander of the Media American Legion, Bob is a Korean War veteran and Chairman of the Memorial Day and Veterans Day parade in Media for the last ten years.

 

COUNCIL- Monica G. Simpson

During her current term on Borough Council, Monica Simpson secured a grant to underwrite the Houtman and Philip Green Parks Master Plan. As Recreation Board liaison she helped establish Outdoor Family Movie Night at Barrall Field, and Tai Chi and Yoga classes. Monica also spearheaded the borough’s decision to establish Media as North America’s First Fair Trade Town, bringing national and international attention to the fair trade issue and paving the way the way for the 1st Media Fair Trade Fair last September. Monica has been co-director of the Media 5 Mile Race since 2006.

 

COUNCIL- Eric W. Stein

Dr. Stein is Associate Professor of Management Science and Information Systems at Penn State Great Valley, has served as Chair of its Faculty Senate, and is Director of Entrepreneurial Studies. He also owns a small software and management consulting company, Barisoft LLC, specializing in small business development and technology. He is a member of the Borough’s Environmental Advisory Committee and the Media Arts Council. The Delaware County Times features him as a guest columnist on small business, energy and technology issues.


COUNCIL- Monika Rehoric

Monika owns Kennys’ Flowers on State Street. She currently serves as Chair of the Media Business Authority and the Media Historical Society, and has been instrumental in organizing the annual Christmas house tours. She has been a consistent advocate for marrying the interests of residents and the business community to secure a strong future for Media.

 

COUNCIL- Dawn Roe

Dawn lives and works in Media Borough and is active in many local organizations including The Media Arts Council, America’s First Fair Trade Town Committee, the Media Historical Society and the Delaware County S.P.C.A.  She works for Mendoza Group Inc., a Hispanic advertising firm that moved to Media in part, because it is a Fair Trade Town. Dawn’s career has included work with Dr. Henry A. Kissinger, Morgan Stanley and the Philadelphia Eagles.  She holds a Master of Science degree in Organization Leadership.
